Movie Theater Owners Calling For Shorter Trailers

Did you hear?
New guidelines issued Monday by the National Assn. of Theatre Owners call for limiting the length of movie trailers to two minutes.

Why do you think this is so? Are you people complaining in theatres of the trailer? Is the trailer giving away too much of the movie? Real talk I always thought a trailer was 2 minute or less. Ha ha. That must be the perfect time frame for the trained mind. 2 min or less ? What do you think?

Steve Klein: Ask students to remember one thing from each class

YOU have to figure out that one thing. 🙂

The Buttry Diary

Thanks to Steve Klein for this contribution to my series of advice for a new adjunct journalism professor:

Too often, new instructors are over-ambitious in the classroom.

And even some veteran teachers never seem to learn that one thing.

A teacher can bring a packed 20-pound bag of valuable learning to a class but probably only has time — and the necessary students’ attention span — to empty a fraction of it.

Which brings me to “The One Thing.”

What do you most want your student to learn from each class?

What will each student remember from each class?

What will each student remember at the end of the semester?

What will each student remember five, 10, even 20 years later?

That’s why you don’t want to over-pack that bag you bring to class.

And that’s the one thing every teacher should remember!

What to write ?

Write about what interests you. It will be more fun and if it interest you it will probably interest others. Keep the following in mind:

•Unusual things and surprises really get attention. We all love irony in a movie or to guess wrong what happens.
•If the outcome of the story is predictable, you lose the audience sometimes. They are either happy it was predictable they can tell their friends. Or they are not impress and feel they could have did a better story line.
•Humor can be a helpful element in any story, but too much humor spoils it.
•One page equals about one minute of screen time, so shoot for ten to thirty pages, which is typically about three to twelve scenes.

Hint: it’s easier in some ways to write thirty pages than ten because shorter stories need more intensity.
I found this information very helpful in writing our treatment. I am so excited for 2014 and http://www.mickiraproductions.com projects.

We love Kevin Hart. He is a true comedian. We went to see Ride Along this week end. Good movie. It was really nice to view a movie and get a few good laughs in.

The Urban Daily

Split Screen of Kevin Hart and ObamaKevin Hart is one of the biggest comedians in the game today. Along with the fame he’s basking in, Kevin Hart gets invited to many prestigious events. One such event proved to be one of the biggest days in his life. Hart was a guest on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” where he shared a story of when he was invited to the White House by President Barack Obama. While Kevin admitted that he doesn’t get starstruck when he meets celebrities, Obama was one that made him lose his mind.

At the White House event, Kevin got excited when the president called him out by name and said that he was glad Kevin could make it. Hart says he and Obama became best friends when Obama called him “Kev.” Hart told Fallon as he crossed his fingers tightly, “He called me Kev. He didn’t call me Kevin Hart…
